What is the A European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage – Innovative use cases Call?

Grant Description
This call supports implementation of real-world use cases and comprehensive end-to-end testing of the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH) platform and its tools. Funded projects will verify platform capabilities, document and communicate innovative uses, implement improvements based on user feedback, and extend outreach to attract new user groups, thereby enabling new forms of cooperation, co-creation and research paradigms in cultural heritage.

Expected Outcomes

• End-to-end testing findings based on real use cases contribute to a seamless, user-friendly, inclusive and powerful ECCCH platform

• Documentation and communication of deployed use cases produce a wide collection of innovative ECCCH applications, illustrating benefits and attracting new users and user groups

• Identification and implementation of improvements, together with active user engagement, significantly increase ECCCH uptake by European cultural heritage professionals and researchers, enabling new ways to interact, cooperate and co-create

• Support for generation of new knowledge and opening of new research paradigms through widespread, validated, and improved ECCCH use
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

• Carry out end-to-end testing of ECCCH platform and user tools based on real use cases from participating heritage institutions and researchers

• Use multiple key ECCCH features (advanced digital twins, large-scale cooperation and co-creation, digital continuum, commercial cooperation tools)

• Explore integration with related platforms (Common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage, EOSC)

• Involve active ECCCH users from at least five different Member States or Associated Countries

• Include a mix of organisations of different sizes, subsectors and disciplines

• Document all activities and results to support platform improvement and communication of innovative uses

• Coordinate closely with previously funded ECCCH projects to avoid duplication and add new value

• Provide capacity within the consortium to implement important platform improvements and fixes

• Comply with ECCCH data model, software development and documentation guidelines established under HORIZON-CL 2-2023-HERITAGE-ECCCH-01-01

• License all developed software under CC0 or FSF/OSI-recommended open-source licenses, or meet strict conditions for proprietary components

• Ensure data produced is FAIR and that any new interoperability standards build on accepted European practices

• Allocate budget for financial support to third parties (max 15% of total, €60 000 per third party) to engage additional users

• Include budget for attendance at regular joint ECCCH coordination meetings and potential other common activities

• Establish project website under the common ECCCH website

• Plan for a project duration of approximately 2 to 2.5 years

Special Conditions

• Lump sum grant model with a 50-page limit for Part B plus mandatory detailed budget table

• Mandatory open-source licensing: CC0 or FSF/OSI-approved; proprietary components only if open functional replacement exists, no proprietary data formats/APIs introduced, and free perpetual user license granted to ECCCH consortium and users

• All deliverables (software, documentation) must comply with data model and software development guidelines from the HORIZON-CL 2-2023-HERITAGE-ECCCH-01-01 project

• Financial support to third parties limited to grants, max 15% of budget, max €60 000 per third party

• Projects must coordinate and participate in ECCCH common activities and technical work streams, including regular coordination meetings

• Project websites must be hosted under the common ECCCH website

• Regular coordination mechanisms with other ECCCH projects must be established to ensure synchronised planning and synergy

• Data produced must be FAIR; new or modified interoperability standards must build on existing European data spaces and research infrastructures

• Legal entities established in China are not eligible to participate
