What is the Accelerating freight transport and logistics digital innovation Call?

Grant Description
This innovation action supports the development and demonstration of extended functionalities for Electronic Freight Transport Information platforms beyond the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2020/1056. It addresses the need for harmonised business-to-business and business-to-authority data sharing in multimodal logistics, including new use cases for greenhouse gas reporting, sustainability claims, smart enforcement, customs, e-invoicing, and carbon accounting. Proposals must deliver operational...
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

- Extended functionalities of e FTI platforms beyond the baseline Regulation 2020/1056, enabling new B2B use cases, solutions and applications for harmonized information sharing in multimodal logistics (including GHG reporting, sustainability claims, green freight operations).
• Complementary B2A applications and services supporting businesses’ compliance with Union transport and related regulatory frameworks (smart enforcement, statistics, customs, e-invoicing, sustainability reporting, data spaces, GHG and external costs calculations).
• Established best practices to boost and accelerate adoption of e FTI frameworks and data-sharing innovations, with particular focus on SME uptake.
• Demonstrated and quantified improvements in operational and freight transport efficiency through advanced digital connectivity and interoperability in both B2B and B2A contexts, relative to project baseline.
• Demonstrated and quantified reductions in administrative burden and costs associated with B2B data sharing and B2A regulatory and non-regulatory reporting.
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

- Proposals must build on and refer explicitly to Regulation (EU) 2020/1056 and its implementing/delegated acts, using its legislative framework and technical specifications as a core principle.
• Reflect and integrate the latest state-of-the-art technologies for electronic information exchange, including AI-enabled interoperability.
• Leverage existing Union initiatives (Digital Transport and Logistics Forum, European Mobility Data Space) where relevant; no new architectures or federations of platforms are allowed.
• Do not replicate or redevelop functionalities already mandated by the current e FTI Regulation; focus on extending operational e FTI platforms in place at project start.
• Address business-to-authority (B2A) and business-to-business (B2B) perspectives: develop complementary B2A applications and universal B2B solutions.
• Propose minimal-effort integration methods for industrial stakeholders.
• Account for data sovereignty, data privacy, cybersecurity and trust, in compliance with GDPR and the Cybersecurity Act.
• Define at least two demonstration environments/ecosystems for testing solutions, ensuring involvement of relevant platform operators and end-users.
• Ensure B2B use cases are led by industry stakeholders; B2A use cases must involve cooperation among industry, researchers and public administrations.
• Identify and define new data to enrich the existing e FTI dataset for targeted use cases, and specify required protocol and access-control extensions.
• Assess and align with other EU regulatory frameworks (GHG emissions accounting, CSRD, AI Act, Data Governance Act, etc.) and propose harmonized implementation pathways.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

- Out of scope: development of any form of new platform architecture, federation or generic data-exchange infrastructure (these are already delivered by e FTI and DTLF).
• Proposals must not redevelop functionalities already required under Regulation 2020/1056; they must leverage and extend existing operational e FTI platforms.
• Minimum Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 7 for all technical solutions and tools at demonstration stage.
• Demonstrations must take place in at least two distinct environments/ecosystems, involving real platform operators and end-users.
• B2B use cases must be industry-led (e.g. shippers, freight forwarders, carriers); B2A use cases must involve public authorities (e.g. statistical offices) in co-development.
• All proposed data handling must comply with relevant EU legislation on data protection, digital identity, data governance, AI regulation and cybersecurity certification.
