Grant Description
This call supports innovation actions to apply regenerative design principles to the built environment. Projects will analyse at least ten existing regenerative design examples in buildings, measure their environmental restoration and sustainability performance using recognized assessment methods, develop and demonstrate at least one tool or technology to facilitate regenerative construction and renovation, and deploy the solution in at least three neighbourhoods across urban, peri-urban and rur...
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

Project results are expected to deliver all of the following: 1. Availability to the construction ecosystem of tested and proven principles of regenerative design for the design, construction and renovation of the built environment. 2. Improved tools and technologies that enable actors across the construction ecosystem to apply regenerative design approaches effectively. 3. Demonstrated evidence that applying regenerative design in neighbourhoods contributes to the regeneration of natural ecosystems and biodiversity while enhancing human health and well-being.
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

Proposals must address all of the following:
• Analyse at least 10 existing regenerative design examples in buildings and quantify their environmental restoration and sustainability performance using established or emerging assessment methods.
• Select buildings in as diverse contexts as possible (geographical, environmental, climatic, social, economic) that generate their own renewable energy and may employ nature-based solutions, water collection/reuse/purification, water efficiency, cleaner air building solutions, carbon-storing architecture, and medium/long-term energy storage (e.g. phase-change materials).
• Demonstrate that selected buildings have used collaborative, inclusive community engagement and, where applicable, overcome legislative or regulatory barriers through cooperation with public authorities.
• Develop at least one innovative solution (tool or technology) transforming construction and renovation at all lifecycle stages, promoting natural resource use, circularity, and positive impacts on people and nature, reflecting the role of local/indigenous crafts and knowledge.
• Demonstrate the innovative solution in at least three neighbourhoods (urban, peri-urban, rural) located in at least three Member States or Associated Countries.
• Follow a participatory, transdisciplinary approach integrating diverse actors (public authorities, local actors, civil society, private owners) and disciplines (architecture, urban design, engineering, health, arts, SSH).
• Integrate meaningful SSH contributions to maximise societal impact.
• Allocate at least 0.2% of the total budget to share results with the NEB Hub for results and impact.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

• Demonstrations must occur in at least three neighbourhoods across a minimum of three Member States or Associated Countries.
• Projects must adopt a participatory, transdisciplinary methodology engaging public authorities, local communities, civil society, private owners, and diverse academic and professional disciplines.
