What is the Art Fair International Call?

Grant Description
This scheme supports stand rental contributions for Dutch and non-Dutch galleries and publishers to participate in international art and art book fairs outside the Netherlands. It aims to strengthen the international standing of contemporary visual arts from the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom by covering part of the basic stand rental and related costs.

Funded areas

Scope Requirements

• Eligible applicants:
– Dutch and non-Dutch galleries that subscribe to the Gallery Fair Practice Code and present living visual artists from the Netherlands and/or Caribbean part of the Kingdom
– Publishers of art books presenting publications about contemporary visual art from the Netherlands and/or Caribbean part of the Kingdom

• Content thresholds for galleries:
– <40% work by Dutch/Caribbean artists: no grant
– 40–80%: 50% of basic stand rental, up to a maximum (€4,750 for rentals <€20,000; €6,750 for €20,000–30,000; €9,000 for >€30,000)
– >80%: 80% of basic stand rental, up to the same maxima

• Content thresholds for publishers:
– <25% publications on relevant artists or art: no grant
– 25–50%: fixed grant of €1,000
– >50%: fixed grant of €2,000

• Application deadlines:
– Fairs on the established list: up to six weeks before opening
– Fairs not on the list: at least three months before opening; allow for internal processing time

• No retrospective funding; applicants require an account in the online system.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

• Galleries must sign, actively apply and publicly display the Gallery Fair Practice Code on their website

• Grant may not cover furnishing costs, VAT/sales tax or other expenses beyond stand rental (and for publishers, travel and transport only)

• Applicants must include an invitation or proof of admission from the fair

• Artists must be professionally active living visual artists, resident in the Netherlands or Caribbean part of the Kingdom

• Maximum one application per fair per applicant; maximum of three Art Fair International grants per calendar year

• Complete application dossier required: gallery/publisher profile, project plan (floor plan or publication list, percentages), proof of admission/application, stand rental quotation, CVs of artists, and—if non-listed fair—explanation of fair’s significance; non-Dutch artists require BRP extract
