What is the Art Media grant Call?

Grant Description
The Mondriaan Fund Art Media grant supports written or spoken word publications that stimulate independent engagement with and discourse around contemporary visual art in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. It addresses the social value of contemporary art by funding series of articles, long reads, podcasts or similar formats published on public media platforms.

Funded areas

Scope Requirements

- Applicants: platforms such as online magazines and other public media, and individuals working as curators, critics, social content creators or journalists; new initiatives and equal collaborations also eligible
• Subject: must address the social value of contemporary visual art from an independent position and broad perspective
• Form: distinct, project-based written or spoken-word publications (articles, long reads, podcasts) clearly separable from regular or ongoing activities
• Accessibility: final output must be published on at least one public medium or platform with appropriate reach
• Ineligible: television or film productions; artist profiles or portraits; continuation of previously funded series or indistinct recurring activities tied to existing programmes
• Budget: Mondriaan Fund covers up to 70% of eligible costs; total round budget €200,000
• Duration: fixed grant of 1–6 months at €2,255/month (must justify duration) or flexible grant up to 12 months (sum determined by plan and budget)
• Fair Pay: all project participants must be remunerated in line with applicable collective labour agreements or guidelines

Special Conditions

- Application deadlines 2025: 20 March and 2 October (NL time 16:00 / Caribbean time 10:00)
• Must create a Mondriaan Fund account at least 3 months before deadline; no retrospective funding; no uploads after deadline; incomplete submissions not processed
• Museums, art and heritage institutions may only apply for individual productions not directly linked to their own programme
• Advisory committee review: only positively recommended applications may receive funding; budget constraints may lower or prioritize amounts
• Assessment criteria: quality and significance of past work; quality and impact of the project plan (heaviest weight); quality of presentation plan; innovation; (if applicable) added value of equal collaboration
• Strict submission checklist and page limits for attachments (work plan, CV, documentation, budgets, declarations, bank details, VAT proof, letters of support, quotes)
