What is the Artist Project Call?
Expected Outcomes
• Advance the artist’s individual oeuvre, demonstrating distinctive vision and development appropriate to their career stage
• Produce original, high-quality contemporary visual art with substantive significance
• Strengthen the artist’s cultural entrepreneurship: increased visibility, audience engagement and professional positioning (e.g. via exhibitions, online presence, networking)
• Enhance the quality and visibility of contemporary visual art in the Netherlands and/or the Caribbean Kingdom
• Reach relevant audiences through planned dissemination strategies (exhibitions, workshops, publications, digital platforms)
Scope Requirements
• Be visual artists professionally active for ≥1 year (either since HBO diploma or first professional presentation)
• Operate within the professional visual arts field of the Netherlands and/or Caribbean part of the Kingdom
• Not be enrolled full-time in Bachelor’s, Master’s, post-doctoral or PhD programmes (part-time <20 hrs/week excepted)
• Submit a justified timeline if requesting the fixed contribution (max 6 months at €2.585/month)
• If requesting a flexible contribution (max 12 months), provide a detailed itemised budget and financing plan showing ≥10% funding from own or third-party sources
• Allow 3 months for application processing; applications may be submitted year-round via the Fund’s online system
Special Conditions
• Flexible grants cover a maximum 90% of eligible costs; ≥10% must be self- or third-financed
• Collaborating parties (venues, galleries, institutions) must make financial contributions proportionate to the Fund’s, and cultural institutions must comply with the Fair Practice Code
• Ineligible costs include: ongoing living expenses (housing, childcare), exhibition or presentation costs, framing or reproducing existing work, stays in Mondriaan Fund-supported guest studios, projects at long-term funded BIS institutions (except non-standard programming)
• An artist may receive support for a maximum of 24 months within any 48-month period; during the remainder they may only apply for flexible project-cost grants
• A rejected application on artistic grounds bars reapplication to several Mondriaan grants for 12 months
• Application form closed 31 July 16:00–4 August 12:00 (Dutch time)
