What is the Artist’s Fee grant Call?

Grant Description
This grant supports publicly accessible visual art institutions in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom to cover artist fees for exhibitions without a sales objective. It addresses fair remuneration by encouraging institutions to apply the Fair Practice Code guideline, ensuring artists are compensated according to standard rates for labor and use of their work.

Scope Requirements

Eligibility:

• Publicly accessible visual arts institutions based in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, whose core activity is to exhibit contemporary visual art and/or heritage without a sales objective.

• Must subscribe to and sign the Fair Practice Code, Culture Governance Code and Diversity & Inclusion Code, and apply the Mondriaan Fund’s artist fee guideline (Fair Pay Rate Table 2023).

• The artist must hold at least a bachelor's degree in visual arts or have at least three years’ professional experience.

Application & Timing:

• Submit online via the Mondriaan Fund portal (account required).

• Applications must be lodged at least two months before the exhibition start date.

• Exhibition must open to the public within 12 months of submission.

• Grant cannot be awarded retroactively.

• Allow a two-month processing period after full submission.

Funding Rules:

• Contribution is 50% of the standard artist fee (excl. VAT), provided the fee paid is at least 100% of the guideline amount.

• Minimum request is €100; applications for less will not be processed.

• Six factors determine the guideline amount: category of work; number of artists; presentation duration; organisation size (small/medium/large); additional artistic-content work; construction/maintenance/dismantling effort.

Special Conditions

Temporary Closure:

• Application portal closed Thu 31 July 4:00 pm (CEST) / 10:00 am (ADT) until Mon 4 Aug 12:00 pm (CEST) / 6:00 am (ADT).

Ineligible Institutions for 2025–2028 Activities:

• Recipients of multi-year Art Platform Programmes 2025–2028 funding or equivalent support from other National Culture Funds.

• Institutions in the basic cultural infrastructure 2025–2028 (bis), except regional museums not already subsidised under the Regulation on Specific Cultural Policy.

• Those supported under the National Collection Management and Subsidies for Museum Institutions Regulations (Heritage Act).

• Awardees of an Art Heritage Festival grant for the same activity.

• Any institution already receiving fair pay funds from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science for 2025–2028.

Other Conditions:

• Must pay artist invoices within one month of invoice date.

• Applications must include: KVK extract; organisational profile; exhibition project plan; concise CVs; signed artist contract or email confirmation; full exhibition budget; bank details.

• Positive recommendations are funded in order of receipt until the budget is exhausted; no content-based quality assessment.
