Expected Outcomes

- Enhanced knowledge and acceptance of bio-fabricated construction materials and their beneficial properties among construction ecosystem professionals
• Demonstration that innovative, sustainably sourced, aesthetically appealing bio-fabricated materials can be manufactured at mass-scale and competitive costs
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

Proposals must address all of the following:
• Development and laboratory and/or pilot-scale testing of at least two bio-fabricated construction materials with innovative features beyond existing market offerings
• Demonstration of material suitability for interior, exterior and/or structural uses
• Full compliance with applicable EU standards, codes and regulatory frameworks for construction materials
• Comprehensive evaluation of each material’s structural, mechanical, thermal, acoustic, health-related, durability and aesthetic performance, including response to environmental variations (e.g. weather conditions)
• Feasibility study for mass-scale production, integrating high-technology manufacturing processes and digital tools (3D printing, robotics, BIM, parametric design, sensors, AI)
• Environmental footprint analysis via a standardized life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology
• Assessment of social and economic impacts through social LCA (SLCA) and life-cycle costing (LCC) approaches
• Integration of a participatory and transdisciplinary working method, involving public authorities, local actors, civil society and private owners, and drawing on multiple disciplines (architecture, design, arts, engineering)
• Allocation of at least 0.2% of the project’s total budget to share findings with the New European Bauhaus hub (HORIZON-MISS-2024-NEB-01-03)
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

- Allocate a minimum of 0.2% of the total project budget to share intermediate and final results with the Coordination and Support Action ‘New European Bauhaus hub for results and impact’ (HORIZON-MISS-2024-NEB-01-03)
• Projects must adhere to NEB working principles for participatory and transdisciplinary approaches
• Proposals must respect admissibility conditions: page limits and layout per Annex A and E of the Horizon Europe General Annexes and Part B of the application form
• Eligibility as per Annex B (EU Member States, Associated Countries, with specific third-country funding provisions)
• Financial and operational capacity and exclusion criteria as per Annex C of the General Annexes
• Evaluation criteria, scoring and thresholds per Annex D; submission and evaluation processes per Annex F; legal and financial grant set-up per Annex G
• Submission via single-stage call on the Funding & Tenders Portal by 12 November 2025, 17:00 Brussels time
• Use of the specific application form, evaluation templates and Model Grant Agreement provided in the Submission System
