What is the Collection Mobility Call?

Grant Description
The grant supports Dutch museums and cultural heritage institutions in revaluating their collections through selection, disposal and relocation of items. It aims to enhance the quality and visibility of the Dutch National Cultural Heritage Collection by improving alignment of holdings with institutional missions and strengthening national collection overview.

• Broadened audience engagement through targeted presentation plans for relocated objects
• More efficient, cost‐effective loan transactions following the ‘Slimmer Lenen’ principles
• Long‐term embedding of reallocated objects within the missions of both lending and receiving institutions, reinforcing national heritage infrastructure
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

- Applicants: publicly accessible Dutch museums and cultural heritage institutions registered with the Dutch Museum Register and the Dutch Chamber of Commerce.
• Joint applications: required where there is a receiving institution; all parties must be registered and submit a joint plan.
• Financial contribution: applicants must make a significant own contribution; the Fund finances up to 40% of eligible costs.
• Timing: applications may be submitted at any time via the online system; allow three months for processing; no retrospective funding.
• Documentation: upload a recent Chamber of Commerce registration; organisational information; collection information; project plan (max. 20 pages); presentation plan (if applicable, max. 15 pages); collection plan of receiver; detailed budget and financing plan; declarations of financial contributions; tenders; bank details (if new); declaration(s) of consent; VAT liability proof (if applicable); optional visual documentation (max. 20 images).
• Compliance: follow Mondriaan Fund budget and document guidelines and technical specifications.

Special Conditions

Excluded activities:
• Construction or restoration of buildings (including listed buildings)
• Excavation of archaeological objects
• Passive conservation or routine documentation of collections
• Any relocations already funded by State cultural resources or expected to be covered by regular budgets
Required conditions:
• Objects must be disposed of per the official Disposal Guideline and valuation framework
• Loan transactions must adhere to the ‘Slimmer Lenen’ principles: no loan fees; minimised direct costs (transport, insurance, packaging)
• Applicants must demonstrate institutional significance and collaborative added value
• Grant offers may be lower than recommended or withheld due to budgetary constraints
• Positive advisory committee recommendation is required for eligibility
