Expected Outcomes
2. Industrial bio-based systems enhance their resilience to energy provision issues by adopting flexible, energy-efficient, digitalized process solutions and integrating renewable energy sources.
Scope Requirements
• Proposals must select at least one case study in the EU or Associated Countries
• Address all four thematic pillars: 1) energy efficiency improvements (e.g. thermal separation, drying, catalysts), 2) rebound-effect analysis and mitigation, 3) water-energy nexus integration, 4) energy consumption flexibility and renewable energy implementation
• Include a dedicated demonstration task covering all four pillars in the selected case studies
• Employ digital tools and AI to optimize solutions
• Assess each solution’s contribution to climate neutrality
• For large industrial installations, align with INCITE guidelines on resource efficiency and circular economy
• Follow Horizon Europe general annexes for admissibility, eligibility, evaluation and reporting

• Eligible participants: entities from EU Member States and Horizon Europe Associated Countries (with specific provisions for certain third countries per Work Programme Annex B)

• Evaluation criteria, scoring and thresholds: General Annex D; submission and evaluation processes: General Annex F

• Excludes food/feed, biofuels, bioenergy and cultural/recreation sectors
• Gender dimension integration in R&I content is optional
• Multi-actor approach is encouraged; refer to INCITE for large-scale resource efficiency and circular economy guidance
