Future of Retail

• A conclusive feasibility study report demonstrating technical feasibility, commercial viability and user desirability of the proposed service.

• Prototype or service concept demonstrator leveraging the chosen space asset(s).

• Validated business case with revenue model, cost-benefit analysis and go/no-go recommendation for further development.

• Evidence of customer engagement: pilot feedback, market survey results or letters of interest.

• Identification of next steps for scaling or follow-on funding (e.g., demonstration projects, partnerships).

• Strengthened collaboration with ESA networks and potential industrial or commercial partners.

• Target topics: immersive retail (AI-driven personalisation, AR guidance, dynamic pricing); supply chain transparency & resilience (SatEO-based traceability, predictive analytics for demand forecasting); autonomous retail (automated shops, warehouses, delivery vehicles); connected retail (real-time IoT monitoring of sales, inventory, customer flow).

• Mandatory use of at least one space technology category: Satellite Earth Observation, Satellite Communications or Satellite Positioning, Navigation & Timing.

• Proposals must demonstrate desirability (evidence of customer need and engagement), viability (commercially profitable model) and feasibility (technical soundness).

• Team composition must include business, technical and financial expertise.

• Maximum total project cost: €100 000; ESA funding covers up to 75% (€75 000 per activity).

• Duration: six months.

• Registration on ESA-Star required; download official competition documents to prepare proposal; obtain Letter of Authorisation from National Delegate if applicable; submit via ESA-Star tendering by 23 January 2026.
