Grant Description
This call funds practice‐oriented research into key questions expected to shape the Dutch post-secondary education sector over the next ten years. Projects must answer issues arising in educational practice and contribute to innovation and improvement across the sector. Research is conducted within educational settings in close collaboration between academic researchers and education professionals.

- Generation of empirically grounded answers to pressing educational practice questions
• Contributions to innovation and improvement across the mbo, hbo and wo sectors in the Netherlands
• Strengthened researcher–practitioner partnerships and knowledge networks
• Transferable, implementable outputs that enhance professionalisation, accessibility, inclusivity and autonomous learning in higher education
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

- Thematic focus on questions that matter for the entire vervolgonderwijs sector (mbo, hbo, wo) in the next ~10 years
• Eligible applicants: educational researchers as project leaders (Phase 1); project leaders plus education professionals as consortium members (Phase 2)
• Budget: €1 000 000 per project; total call budget €9 000 000; maximum nine projects (one per theme)
• Mandatory intent declaration by 24 June 2025 14:00 CEST; project-leader proposals by 23 September 2025 14:00 CEST; full consortium proposals by 27 October 2026 14:00 CET
• Use of prescribed ISAAC forms (application, consortium, budget in Excel)
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

- Two-stage application: intent declaration prerequisite for full proposal; separate deadlines and submission requirements per phase
• Only one project funded per theme; projects must be practice-based and generate actionable results
• Submission of co-financing/matching letters of commitment (if applicable) in a single PDF
• External, independent review committee; proposal assessments include interviews, rebuttal opportunities, and committee meetings
• Required adherence to NWO’s research data management policies (plan submitted pre-start)
