What is the Improved reliability and optimised operations and maintenance for wind energy systems Call?

Grant Description
This research and innovation action aims to enhance the reliability and reduce operational, financial and climate risks of wind energy systems by developing and validating new analytical methods, condition and health monitoring tools, predictive and optimised operation and maintenance technologies, digital solutions and safe maintenance components, thereby reducing uncertainties and downtime, minimising environmental impacts, and strengthening the competitiveness and technology leadership of the...
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

1. Limit the operational, financial and climate-related risks of wind energy systems, thereby reducing uncertainties in wind energy projects. 2. Strengthen the strategic autonomy, technology leadership, competitiveness and export potential of the European wind energy supply chain.
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

Proposals must address at least four of the following aspects:
1. Develop and validate solutions to increase the reliability of wind energy systems and their components, ensuring security of supply and reducing environmental impacts.
2. Develop new computational methods, analytical techniques and tools to analyse and predict system reliability, including failure mode analysis and use of novel materials and technologies.
3. Develop new methods and tools for condition and health monitoring of wind energy systems and components.
4. Develop and validate solutions to optimise operation and maintenance (e.g., improved scheduling, predictive maintenance, autonomous tools, robots, vehicles, semi-automated inspection, advanced repair methods).
5. Develop and validate new components to enhance on-site safety and efficiency during maintenance activities.
6. Develop and validate innovative digital tools for wind farm operation and maintenance (interoperability, decision support, monitoring techniques, innovative sensors) with enhanced cybersecurity and data sharing.
Additional scope requirements:
• Provide solid evidence supporting the choice of critical sub-systems and components (e.g., floating offshore wind dynamic cables, moorings, connection systems and their interaction with ocean flows).
• Ensure that generated data comply with FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Re-usable).
• Emphasise digitalisation for predictive maintenance, advanced sensor technologies, structural health assessment and monitoring.
• Aim to reduce downtime and operational costs, enhance safety protocols for maintenance crews, and increase overall lifespan and efficiency of assets.
• Design solutions to be easily standardised or compatible with existing standardisation efforts, irrespective of envisaged TRL.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

Type of Action: Horizon RIA under HORIZON-AG-LS lump sum grants. Single-stage submission by 17 February 2026, 17:00 Brussels time. Data management must adhere to FAIR principles and incorporate robust cybersecurity and data-sharing protocols. Focused sub-systems/components must be critical to overall reliability; exemplary context provided for floating offshore wind. Outputs should consider and facilitate relevant standardisation processes regardless of project TRL.
