What is the Innovative Advanced Materials (IAMs) for conformable, flexible or stretchable electronics (RIA) (Innovative Advanced Materials for Europe partnership) Call?

Grant Description
This call aims to discover innovative advanced materials, including two-dimensional materials, with improved flexibility, conformability and stretchability to enable novel flexible electronic applications such as wearable electronics, e-textiles and e-skins. It focuses on environmentally friendly processing with reduced carbon footprint, promoting sustainable and recyclable electronics compatible with energy- and resource-efficient manufacturing processes.
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

• Conformable, flexible or stretchable electronic devices and circuits that enhance user experience and drive adoption

• Sustainable electronics based on low environmental-impact materials, promoting reparability, recyclability and compatibility with energy- and resource-efficient manufacturing processes

• Tailored materials for solution-processed electronics (semiconductors, conductors, dielectrics, electroactive polymers, functional substrates) enabling high-performance, reliable flexible electronic devices
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

• Focus on environmentally friendly IAMs with reduced carbon-footprint processing

• Demonstrate improved flexibility, conformability and stretchability enabling comfortable wearables, e-textiles, e-skin and IoWT applications

• Address at least most of the following challenges: user discomfort of existing wearables; hazardous or critical raw materials use; energy- and resource-intensive processes; limited performance/durability of flexible materials; poor integrability (size, weight, cabling, interface with rigid components, design limitations)

• Incorporate reparability and recyclability features (reversible adhesives/interconnects, low-temperature soldering, bio-based/recycled substrates, bio-resorbable conductive materials)

• Ensure compatibility with energy- and resource-efficient manufacturing processes (printing, thermoforming, lamination, injection moulding, high-pressure forming)

• Leverage European analytical research infrastructures and services (ARIE network)

• Build upon existing standards and integrate standardisation into innovation and dissemination plans

• Embed synergies with the IAM 4 EU co-programmed partnership and its stakeholder community

• Collaborate with relevant projects and initiatives (e.g. Graphene Flagship for 2D materials) and national/regional programmes; allocate dedicated resources for these synergies
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

• Action type: Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action (RIA), single-stage submission

• Opening: 10 June 2025; Deadline: 2 October 2025, 17:00 Brussels time
