What is the Innovative pathways for low carbon and climate resilient building stock and built environment (Built4People Partnership) Call?

Grant Description
This call supports the development and validation of replicable, scalable planning methods and procedures embedding innovative building solutions to improve whole life carbon performance, circularity, sustainability, climate resilience, safety and durability of buildings and the built environment. Projects will address barriers to the uptake of such solutions by defining pathways for decarbonisation and resilience, validating methods in at least three countries with varied climates and building ...
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

- Improved planning methods and procedures that are replicable and scalable across Europe (and potentially globally), embedding building solutions to improve whole life carbon performance, circularity, sustainability, climate resilience, safety and durability of buildings and the built environment.
• Measurable increase in the number of relevant value chain actors applying such planning methods, procedures and building solutions for the benefit of citizens.
• Quantified pathways demonstrating improved whole life carbon performance of buildings and the built environment.
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

- Develop and validate replicable and scalable planning methods and procedures that embed the uptake of innovative building solutions when developing or regenerating (including deconstruction where relevant) the building stock and built environment.
• Validate these planning methods, procedures and solution sets in a relevant environment in at least three countries with different climatic conditions and building stock characteristics.
• Ensure at least two of the validation cases are relevant for renovation.
• Investigate and apply innovative tools and methods which facilitate adaptation of the building stock to changing user needs, while positively contributing to occupants’ comfort and health.
• Propose and apply a methodology for assessing the effectiveness of the developed decarbonisation and climate resilience pathways, including calculation of whole life carbon reduction compared to a “business as usual” scenario.
• Ensure the active involvement of all relevant public and private stakeholders across the whole renovation and construction value chain, including municipalities, citizens (including vulnerable groups), civil society organisations and building and construction sector professionals.
• Contribute to the objectives of the Built 4 People partnership and its network of innovation clusters, supporting monitoring of its KPIs.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

- Mandatory integration of Social Sciences and Humanities disciplines and experts (including social innovation) to enhance societal impact.
• Projects must implement the co-programmed European Partnership on ‘People-centric sustainable built environment’ (Built 4 People) and report their results to the partnership to support KPI monitoring.
• Selected proposals may involve the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre for added-value input on innovative building solutions and experimental research on full-scale prototype buildings.
• Projects must align with the EU commitment to climate neutrality by 2050 and adopt the whole life carbon definition encompassing all greenhouse gas emissions over a building’s lifecycle, including demolition and disposal.
