Expected Outcomes
• Increase diversity of chemistries and application-oriented cell designs on existing production lines to maintain OEM competitiveness
• Enable medium-term scaled production of premium products for specialised applications (e.g., aviation) and long-term large-scale production
• Deliver high-impact improvements in production yield, quality, cost-efficiency and sustainability (including reduced energy consumption) via optimized processes and digitalisation
• Strengthen the European battery ecosystem through use of EU-sourced materials, products and equipment
Scope Requirements
• Select at least one key manufacturing process for enhancement within existing production lines
• Provide detailed adaptation plans for existing machinery and systems to optimise the chosen process
• Modify machinery to handle new materials and designs efficiently
• Develop and implement technological innovations (precision manufacturing, additive manufacturing)
• Conduct pilot testing with defined metrics (energy consumption, yield, consistency)
• Evaluate effects on adjacent and other manufacturing processes and environments
• Tailor cell design through new or integrated advanced materials to maximise process benefits
• Implement at least one digitalisation/data-integration task: advanced control systems, process/materials modelling, AI-driven analytics
• Include a preliminary exploitation plan: feasibility study, business plan, scalability and commercial deployment strategies
Special Conditions
• Ensure all applicants receive the same information on potential JRC contributions; any JRC involvement must be made equally available
• Collaborate with and contribute to the Coordination and Support Action under HORIZON-CL 5-2025-D 2-02-06
• Report project results and relevant KPI data to the Batt4EU co-programmed European Partnership on Batteries
• Exploitation plans must include strategies for market deployment of products, processes or services resulting from the project
