Grant Description
Supports collaborative research projects between Dutch (including Caribbean Netherlands) and foreign cultural heritage institutions in shared collection areas such as art historical and provenance research. Aims to generate new internationally significant insights and stimulate partnerships, with results presented to public audiences.

Funded areas

Scope Requirements

- Eligible applicants: publicly accessible museums and heritage institutions managing cultural heritage of national significance in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom
• Dutch applicants must partner with one or more foreign cultural heritage institutions in a shared collection focus area
• Joint research and presentation activities must be carried out by both the Dutch institution and its international partner(s)
• Funding contributions: up to 40% of variable project costs for research projects; up to 70% of variable costs (max €15,000) for development-phase research
• Application deadlines twice per year; for this round, submissions due by 4 September, 16:00 CET (Dutch time) / 10:00 AST (Caribbean time)
• Applications submitted and managed via the Mondriaan Fund online application system; processing time up to 3 months post-deadline; retroactive funding not permitted
• Mandatory application components: Chamber of Commerce extract; organisational information; statements of consent from international (and Dutch, if applicable) partners; detailed research plan; presentation plan (15 pp max); itemised budget and financial plan; letters confirming third-party contributions; quotes for budget entries; bank details (if new or changed); proof of VAT-exempt status (if applicable)
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

- Presentation costs incurred by international partner(s) are ineligible for funding
• Applicants must demonstrate a significant own financial contribution; prior fundraising (e.g. crowdfunding) strengthens the application
• Foreign partner(s) must contribute a proportion of project costs acceptable relative to the grant requested
• Advisory committee review and positive recommendation required; final award and amounts decided by the Mondriaan Fund Board subject to overall budget constraints
• Applications exceeding page limits or failing to meet documentation requirements will not be processed
• Grant cannot be used to cover costs already incurred (no retroactive funding)
