Expected Outcomes
• Prototype or proof-of-concept service showcasing the detection, mapping and continuous monitoring of selected contaminants using space assets.
• Data-driven risk management tools delivering real-time or predictive insights for targeted remediation and regulatory compliance.
• Verified environmental claims and labelling, reduced need for on-site inspections, and enhanced workplace safety measures.
• A clear pathway towards commercialisation, scale-up and integration of the developed service into the environmental and health monitoring market.
Scope Requirements
• Solutions must support environmental and public health monitoring, regulatory compliance and workplace/occupational safety in line with relevant international and national regulations.
• Proposals must leverage at least one space asset (SatEO, SatCom, GNSS or Human Spaceflight Technology) to deliver large-scale monitoring, data transmission or precise geo-referencing of contamination zones.
• Applications must produce verifiable data to support environmental claims, regulatory reporting, risk management and safe-removal strategies for hazardous substances.
• Applicants must be economic operators (companies) intending to develop space-based services and reside in eligible ESA Member States.
Special Conditions
• Call opens 14 July 2025 (date TBC); official Kick-Start competition documents available from 16 June 2025 on ESA-STAR following team registration.
• National Delegate Letter of Authorisation required prior to submission (Germany and Luxembourg pre-authorised).
• Proposal submission via ESA-STAR Tendering before the deadline on 18 September 2025.
• Eligible applicants: companies domiciled in ESA Member States: Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
