What is the Migration, de-colonisation, slavery and multicultural European societies Call?

Grant Description
Supports projects that promote remembrance of historical migration, decolonisation, slavery and multiculturalism in Europe. It addresses gaps in public knowledge about past population movements, colonial legacies and their links to structural racism. Funded activities include educational and cultural events, workshops, exhibitions and publications to foster inclusion, awareness and understanding of Europe’s diverse historical experiences.

• Increased public understanding and critical reflection on Europe’s histories of migration, colonialism, slavery and their ongoing societal impacts.

• Tangible contributions to the EU Anti-Racism Action Plan 2020-2025 and the EU Roma Strategic Framework through targeted awareness-raising and inclusion activities.

• Strengthened multicultural European cohesion, inclusion and mutual understanding, particularly among minority and historically marginalised groups.

• Delivery of high-quality, sustainable educational, cultural and digital resources and networks that preserve collective memory and support future generations.

• Development of intersectional narratives that integrate multiple minority perspectives and foster dialogue on structural racism and discrimination.
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

Proposals must address at least one of the four thematic priorities:
1. Exploring the legacy of colonialism and its ongoing impact on contemporary multicultural European societies, contributing to the objectives of the EU Anti-Racism Action Plan 2020-2025.
2. Raising awareness of Roma history, culture and persecution to strengthen inclusion, in line with the EU Roma Strategic Framework for equality, inclusion and participation.
3. Examining common European migration experiences linked to wars, transitional moments, colonisation/de-colonisation, economic drivers or persecution, including specific histories such as female migration or forced displacement of Roma.
4. Adopting an intersectional approach to cover multiple minority groups (e.g. Jews, Roma, Overseas citizens), promoting a nuanced understanding of multicultural European societies.
All projects must foster remembrance, inclusion and dialogue, target European audiences, and be implemented by a consortium meeting the eligibility criteria (see section 6 of the Call document) with the required minimum number of legal entities from eligible countries.
