What is the Monitoring, reporting, verification and mitigation of non-CO2 greenhouse gas emissions and related air pollutants from agriculture Call?

Grant Description
The call supports research and innovation actions to reduce non-carbon dioxide greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture by developing and improving monitoring, reporting and verification tools; assessing mitigation measures through field experiments and demonstrations; conducting life-cycle assessments of fertiliser production; integrating MRV insights into policy models; consolidating mitigation knowledge; and building stakeholder capacity through training and outreach. Outputs include harmoni...
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

Funded projects will contribute to:

• Improved farm-level MRV of direct and indirect non-CO2 GHG emissions and related air pollutants.

• Integration of practical MRV insights into models for agricultural policy development.

• Enhanced understanding of how different agricultural practices and climate change affect non-CO2 GHG and pollutant emissions.

• Availability, dissemination and uptake by farmers, advisors and stakeholders of new knowledge and approaches to mitigate non-CO2 emissions in agricultural practice.
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

Proposals must: 1) Focus on methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O), including indirect N2O sources; 2) Address manure management, livestock feeding and grazing, soil tillage, fertiliser use, liming and other practices across all farming systems (including organic and animal husbandry); 3) Develop harmonised metrics and effective mitigation measures; 4) Conduct analysis, field trials and demonstrations to reduce uncertainties in MRV tools and advance higher-tier reporting under the UNFCCC; 5) Include a full life-cycle perspective for fertiliser-related emissions, comparing organic and mineral products; 6) Investigate linkages and trade-offs between non-CO2 GHG and ammonia/other air pollutants; 7) Assess the effects of elevated atmospheric CO2 and climate change on GHG emissions and mitigation options; 8) Provide dedicated training and outreach to build capacity among farmers, advisors and stakeholders; 9) Allocate tasks and resources to cooperate with other projects under this topic, relevant Horizon Europe cluster 6 destinations and the Soil Deal Mission; 10) Cover multiple pedo-climatic zones and farming approaches, one of which must be organic farming.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

• Joint Research Centre (JRC) may join the consortium to model CO2 vs. non-CO2 emission trade-offs and support the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming certification framework.

• International cooperation is strongly encouraged, notably with China under the EU-China FAB flagship initiative.

• Proposals using satellite or positioning data must incorporate Copernicus and/or Galileo/EGNOS services.

• Lump-sum funding model applies; beneficiaries must comply with Horizon Europe lump sum decision and General Annexes (financial and legal eligibility, page limits, evaluation rules).

• Proposals must liaise with projects under HORIZON-CL6-2025-02-FARM2FORK-07 and HORIZON-MISS-2024-SOIL-01-04, and consider synergies with other Cluster 6 destinations and EU Missions.
