What is the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025 Call?

Grant Description
The call funds postdoctoral fellowships that support international, intersectoral and interdisciplinary mobility of researchers to enhance their research and transferable skills, boost career prospects, foster innovation and open science practices. It addresses the need for high-quality postdoctoral training and brain circulation within and beyond Europe, expecting outputs such as new research results, improved researcher employability, knowledge transfer, and strengthened research environments.

Funded areas

Scope Requirements

Applicants must:

• Be excellent researchers holding a PhD (or equivalent four years’ full-time research experience);

• Submit a joint application with a beneficiary organisation in the academic or non-academic sector established in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country;

• For European Fellowships: be of any nationality and carry out a fellowship of 12–24 months within an EU Member State or Associated Country;

• For Global Fellowships: be European nationals or long-term residents, undertake an outgoing phase of 12–24 months in a non-associated Third Country followed by a mandatory 12-month return phase to an EU or Associated Country host;

• Adhere to specific eligibility for Euratom research areas where applicable;

• Optionally include secondments (up to one-third of duration/outgoing phase, max three months at beneficiary start for Global Fellowships) outside the host organisation, excluding the mandatory return period;

• Optionally request a non-academic placement of up to six months at a different non-academic host in Europe, with added value justification;

• Produce a Career Development Plan submitted as a project deliverable at the start of the action;

• Respect all general admissibility, eligibility, exclusion, financial and operational capacity criteria and comply with the European Charter for Researchers, Horizon Europe General Annexes and relevant Work Programme conditions.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

• Global Fellowships restricted to European nationals or long-term residents; mandatory 12-month return period prohibits secondments;

• Secondments must align with project objectives, not exceed permitted duration and cannot occur during the return phase (Global Fellowships);

• Non-academic placements must be at a different host organisation in an EU Member State or Associated Country and included in the proposal; non-compliant placements are disregarded in evaluation;

• Specific eligibility conditions and funding contributions apply for Euratom research participants and projects;

• ERA Fellowships target mobility to widening countries under Work Programme Annex 11;

• All projects must conform to the Horizon Europe Work Programme General Annexes (A–G), call-specific application and evaluation forms, and comply with financial, legal and administrative rules of the HORIZON Unit Grant model;

• Submission is via the single-stage electronic system by the 10 September 2025 17:00 Brussels time deadline.
