What is the Nature and Biodiversity Call?
Expected Outcomes
• Achievement of ambitious, credible impact indicators with long-term sustainability and potential for replication
• Tangible contributions to EU biodiversity targets (e.g. area restored, populations stabilized or increasing)
• Strengthened enforcement and implementation of EU nature legislation at project sites
• Robust monitoring frameworks and data collection feeding into EU reporting obligations
• Enhanced stakeholder networks, increased public awareness and capacity-building among local actors
• Generation of best-practice methodologies and replication packages for deployment in other regions
Scope Requirements
• Must be Standard Action Projects aiming to implement the LIFE Nature & Biodiversity sub-programme
• Activities must support EU nature legislation (e.g. Birds Directive, Habitats Directive, Nature Restoration Regulation)
• Geographic scope: activities located in eligible countries as per section 6 of the Call document (EU Member States and specified third countries)
• Projects focusing exclusively on governance or information are excluded (covered by LIFE-2025-SAP-NAT-GOV)
• Applications must adhere to the Part B Application Form requirements (page limits, layout, structure)
Special Conditions
• Admissibility: page limit and layout conditions (section 5 of Call document; Part B Application Form)
• Eligibility: legal entities from eligible countries (section 6), meeting operational and financial capacity requirements (section 7)
• Exclusion grounds: as defined in section 7
• Evaluation process: submission and evaluation procedures (section 8 and Online Manual)
• Award criteria, scoring and thresholds (section 9)
• Indicative evaluation timeline and grant agreement preparation (section 4)
• Legal and financial set-up of grants under the LIFE Model Grant Agreement (section 10, LIFE MGA)
• Mandatory annexes: Standard application form, detailed budget table, participant information, maps, description of sites, description of species and habitats
