What is the Not found Call?

Grant Description
This call allows Dutch researchers to participate in bilateral research proposals led by the German Research Foundation or the Research Foundation – Flanders under the Weave instrument. NWO acts as partner agency, funding the Dutch component of joint projects through temporary scientific positions, material budgets, small equipment items and non-scientific support. The aim is to foster high-level international collaboration and strengthen research ties.
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

- Formation and reinforcement of high-quality bilateral research collaborations between Dutch researchers and partners in Germany or Flanders.
• Successful integration of a funded temporary scientific position, enhancing research capacity and training early-career scientists.
• Generation of innovative scientific outputs, publications, and knowledge within the NWO Science domain’s disciplines.
• Strengthening of international networks and elevated competitiveness of Dutch research in European and global contexts.
• Implementation of responsible research data management practices in line with FAIR principles, ensuring long-term accessibility and reusability of research data.
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

- Applicant eligibility: full, associate, or assistant professors (or equivalent) with tenure or tenure-track at eligible Dutch research organisations, or one- or two-year contract holders with clear expectation of permanent appointment.
• Frequency restriction: each main or co-applicant may submit only one ENW-M proposal (including Weave) per 12-month period.
• Budget ceiling: maximum €400,000 from NWO for the Dutch component, to cover exactly one temporary scientific position in combination with material costs, minor equipment, and/or non-scientific support; modules Investment (150,000–500,000 €) and Money follows Cooperation are not available.
• Domain fit: proposals must fall within the NWO Science domain and be assigned to a relevant DFG review board or FWO expert panel in Earth sciences, Biology, Computer science, Life sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Astronomy & Astrophysics, or Mathematics.
• Dual compliance: the bilateral application and foreign researchers must satisfy the conditions of the DFG/FWO funding instrument; the Dutch applicant and budget must comply with the OC ENW-M criteria (see Annex 7.3).
• Submission timing: DFG lead applications may be submitted any time between 6 August 2024 and 31 July 2025 (administrative submission to NWO due within five working days at 14:00 CET/CEST); FWO lead applications due 1 April 2025 at 17:00 CEST (administrative submission to NWO due within five working days at 14:00 CET/CEST).
• Language: proposal and administrative forms must be prepared in English.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

- NWO serves as partner agency only; the foreign funder (DFG or FWO) is the lead agency and conducts scientific evaluation (unless the Dutch applicant is lead, in which case apply as ENW-M-1-WEAVE and NWO acts as lead).
• Eligibility for funding requires ranking among the top 20% of proposals as assessed by the foreign lead agency.
• Joint decision rule: NWO will fund a Weave proposal only if the foreign lead agency accepts it; a foreign rejection automatically leads to NWO rejection.
• Only essential project costs may be requested; no requests under the Investment or Money follows Cooperation modules.
• Continuous call with fixed NWO procedural steps; use of ISAAC system is mandatory for administrative submission (create account at least one working day in advance).
• Prepare a Data Management Plan after grant award but before project start.
