What is the NWA Digital Technology and Work Call?

Grant Description
This call supports multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research consortia that investigate how digital technologies affect work, workers, and human-technology-organization interactions. It aims to generate knowledge and practice perspectives to enable healthy, safe, inclusive, and human-centric deployment of digital technologies in the workplace. Expected outputs include research findings, deployment guidelines, insights for continuous technology development, and policy recommendations.

Expected Outcomes

• Generation of new, actionable knowledge on how digital technologies affect work processes and worker well‐being.

• A clear understanding of the dynamics of human–technology–organisation collaboration and interaction in workplace settings.

• Policy recommendations and action perspectives that enable policymakers to discourage harmful technology implementations and encourage effective, inclusive, human-centric deployments.

• Organisational insights into best practices for deploying and continuously improving digital technologies to optimise work design and processes.

• Strengthened networks and long-term collaborations across the knowledge chain linking fundamental, applied and practice‐oriented research with societal stakeholders.
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

• Thematic focus: impact of digital technologies on work and workers; collaboration and interaction between humans, technology and organisations; human‐centric, inclusive deployment.

• Consortium composition: minimum of one main applicant (research-active Dutch research organisation), at least one co‐applicant and one cooperation partner; optional co-funder(s).

• Mandatory participation of main applicants in both collaborative workshops; registration by 15 April 2025 (14:00 CEST).

• Funding request per project: minimum €2,750,000, maximum €2,865,000; project duration up to 72 months.

• Eligible costs: personnel, equipment, investments, knowledge utilisation (use only vital budget items from provided budget modules).

• Submission requirements: completed application form, updated budget form (available July 2025), declarations of support from cooperation partners, co-funder statements if applicable, guarantee for continuity in project supervision if applicable, “Statement and signature” form.

• Submission via the ISAAC system by 16 September 2025 (14:00 CEST).

• Responsible research data management: data management plan to be prepared after grant award and before project start.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

• Participation in both collaborative workshops is mandatory for main applicants; failure to attend disqualifies the proposal.

• Use of the updated budget form (from July 2025) is compulsory; applications using outdated forms will be rejected.

• All required annexes (declarations of support/co-funding, continuity guarantee, statement and signature) must be uploaded in ISAAC alongside the application PDF.

• Pre-advices and interviews will form part of the assessment procedure; funding decisions by the NWO Executive Board expected December 2025.

• Applicants must have or create an ISAAC account at least one workday before submission.

• Proposals must adhere to NWO’s regulations on eligible costs, research integrity and responsible data management.
