- Provide creative space for talented, pioneering researchers to develop independent lines of academically innovative research.
• Foster the career development of early-career researchers by enabling them to establish themselves as independent investigators.
• Generate high-quality research outputs with significant scientific and/or societal impact.
• Encourage integration of an Evidence Based CV with the research idea to contextualize applicant achievements.
• Strengthen Dutch research institutions through formal embedding guarantees and collaborative frameworks.
• Promote responsible research practices through mandatory data management planning post-award.

- Applicant must hold a PhD obtained within three years before the reference date (1 January 2025) or between 1 January and 2 September 2025. Career-dependent extensions may apply under Section 3.4.2 of the Call for proposals.
• Open to candidates of any nationality, with or without tenured positions.
• Mandatory support (“embedding guarantee”) from a Dutch host institution where the research will be conducted.
• Maximum project duration of 3 years (extendable to 4 years for part-time research); part-time appointments must be ≥0.4 FTE.
• Maximum requested budget of €320,000 (subject to adjustment for shorter projects).
• Domain: Science domain only, comprising seven panels (Earth Sciences; Astronomy; Life Sciences; Chemistry; Physics; Mathematics; Computer Science). Applicants indicate their preferred panel and consider interdisciplinary focus.
• Pre-proposal word limits: academic profile 400–700 words; key output max. 700 words; research idea max. 500 words.
• Full proposal word limits: research description max. 2,000 words (including in-text references); impact section max. 750 words.
