Scope Requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold a tenured or tenure-track position (or a 1–2 year contract with an expected permanent follow-up) at an eligible Dutch research organization.

• Be full, associate or assistant professors (or equivalent).

• Submit only one ENW-M proposal (as main or co-applicant) per twelve-month period.

• Propose basic research questions firmly within NWO Domain Science (earth sciences, astronomy, chemistry, computer science, life sciences, physics, mathematics) or clearly overlapping these domains.

• Choose the appropriate grant category and respect its budget and personnel configurations: ENW-M-1 (≤€400k, 1 position), ENW-M-1X (≤€800k incl. investments, 1 position), ENW-M-1-Weave (≤€400k, 1 position, international team), ENW-M-2 (≤€800k, 2 positions, 2 applicants).

• Prepare proposals in English, using the 2025/2026 forms in ISAAC.

• Upon award, develop a responsible Research Data Management plan before project start.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

• Continuous call: each annual round comprises five sets of 75 admissible proposals (375 total). The 2025/2026 round closes when 375 proposals are received or by 31 July 2026, whichever is earlier.

• ENW-M-1-Weave proposals with a Flemish co-applicant must be submitted by 24 February 2026, 14:00 CET.

• In Weave applications, NWO shares personal data (names, affiliations, application titles, reviewer identities and affiliations, funding decisions and motivations) with partner agencies; applicants consent by submitting.

• Host institutions must acknowledge and accept NWO funding conditions.

• Budgets must combine the designated scientific positions with other allowed modules (e.g. consumables, travel, investments).

• Proposals undergo external peer review, rebuttal stage, cluster committee ranking and NWO Domain Science Board final decision.
