What is the Open Science Meetings 2025 Call?

Grant Description
Financial support for researchers and research support staff to organise bottom-up open science meetings on topics of common interest, aimed at fostering community connections and accelerating the adoption of open science practices through events with external participants.
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

• Enable and accelerate the development, dissemination and uptake of open science practices among research communities
• Strengthen networks and connections between open science communities through thematic meetings
• Foster capacity building and empowerment of communities engaged in FAIR data, open research software, open scholarly publication and citizen science
• Support bottom-up initiatives that contribute to the broader Open Science NL objectives of cultural change and sustainable open science infrastructure
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

• Main applicant must be a full, associate or assistant professor; academic staff member; PhD candidate; or research support staff (community managers, research software engineers, data stewards, programme coordinators, etc.) employed by: – Universities or universities of applied sciences (Article 1.8.1 HE & Scientific Research Act) – University medical centres (Article 1.13.1 HE & Scientific Research Act) – Institutes of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) or NWO – Netherlands Cancer Institute, Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Advanced Research Centre for NanoLithography (ARCNL), Princess Máxima Center
• Co-applicants (optional) may be employees of societal parties in the Netherlands: museums, libraries, patient organisations, citizen collectives
• Each applicant may submit only one application per calendar year
• Minimum lead time: application submitted at least six weeks before meeting; maximum: twelve months before meeting
• Final submission deadline: 11 December 2025, 14:00 CET
• Application must be in Dutch or English, submitted via the ISAAC system
• Application must comply with DORA guidelines (§4.1) and include all mandatory annexes
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

• Societal co-applicants must each submit a de minimis statement declaring total state aid over three years will not exceed €300,000 (EU Regulation 2023/2831)
• Proposals for internal institutional meetings are ineligible (min one-third external participants required)
• Zero-hour contract employees may not apply as main applicants
• Continuous call: applications processed in order of receipt until budget is exhausted
• All applicants must respect the de minimis threshold when composing budgets
• Application budgets must follow the cost eligibility rules set out in the Call for Proposals (§3.2)
