Expected Outcomes

- Older cancer patients gain access to tailored nutritional care-oriented interventions as part of routine treatment, leading to improved treatment outcomes, reduced disease symptoms and side effects, and enhanced survival and quality of life.
• National healthcare providers, policymakers and authorities in European regions, Member States and Associated Countries obtain robust evidence to implement tailored nutritional care within routine cancer treatment and care pathways in everyday medical practice.

Scope Requirements

- Target population: older cancer patients (65+ years) across Europe.
• Study design: pragmatic, randomised or cluster-randomised clinical trials in routine clinical settings.
• Interventions: tailored nutritional care-oriented approaches, potentially combined with physical activity or psychosocial support; must be adapted to cultural and regional care specificities; consider affordability and accessibility.
• Biological stratification: trials must stratify patients biologically; data disaggregation by sex, gender, age, socio-economic status, ethnicity and other relevant factors.
• Endpoints: overall survival, patient-reported outcomes and quality of life; endpoints co-defined with patients and caregivers via participatory models.
• Consortium composition: required mix of stakeholders from healthcare, academia, patient communities, nutrition and behavioural sciences, SMEs, insurers, foundations, civil society and health authorities.
• Data management: metadata in the EU Health Data Space catalogue; compliance with open science principles; use of European research infrastructures; future availability via UNCAN.eu.
• Inclusion of SSH disciplines and expertise throughout the project.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

- Successful applicants must join the Cancer Mission 'Quality of Life' cluster and allocate budget for cluster coordination, networking events, meetings and joint activities (to be defined during grant agreement preparation).
• Use the specific annex template in the submission system to detail clinical studies.
• Translational research scope is strictly limited to supporting the trials’ conduct and analysis; no separate translational research programmes.
• All tools, models and datasets must comply with open science principles and be made publicly available (metadata in EU dataset catalogue, tools via UNCAN.eu).
• Inclusion of SSH experts and institutions is mandatory to ensure societal impact.
• Proposals must respect Horizon Europe admissibility, eligibility, evaluation, financial capacity and grant management conditions as outlined in Work Programme General Annexes.
