Grant Description
The Mondriaan Fund’s Protected Cultural Heritage grant supports owners and managers of objects and collections registered under the Dutch Heritage Act. It funds conservation, restoration, renovation or duplication to prevent decay, return moveable industrial heritage to useable condition, and ensure these significant parts of Dutch cultural heritage remain publicly accessible.

Scope Requirements

Applicants must be owners or managers of objects or collections registered as protected under the Heritage Act and listed in the national Register; applications must concern preservation, restoration/renovation or duplication of a registered protected object or collection; eligible costs are confined to conservation (active and passive), restoration/renovation and duplication as defined; applicants must cover at least 40% of total eligible costs (Mondriaan Fund finances up to 60%); objects restored or renovated must be accessible to the public at regularly scheduled times without appointment; for moveable industrial heritage, restoration must return the object to a useable/operational condition; applicants must demonstrate long-term preservation through adequate structural provisions, climate control and security; all applications must include a detailed budget compliant with Mondriaan Fund guidelines.

Special Conditions

Online applications are possible year-round except during scheduled maintenance (31 July 16:00 to 4 August 12:00 CET); no retroactive funding—applications must be submitted before project commencement; allow up to three months’ processing time from a complete submission (may be longer due to demand); grants cover up to 60% of eligible costs and are subject to available budget—positive advisory opinions do not guarantee award; constructional provisions (e.g. building works), documentation of objects and storage facilities are ineligible; applicants must hold an online account and upload specified PDF attachments (Chamber of Commerce registration, proof of ownership/guardianship, motivation, object/collection description, treatment plan, presentation plan, budget with financing plan including own contribution, tenders, declarations of financial contributions, bank details where applicable), observing page-limit restrictions.
