What is the Rubicon 2025-2 Call?

Grant Description
Supports early career researchers who have recently obtained their doctorate to spend 12 to 24 months at a research institute outside the Kingdom of the Netherlands, covering salary, travel and limited research costs, to gain international research experience and advance their scientific career.

Funded areas

Scope Requirements

• Applicant must have completed a PhD at a recognized Dutch research organisation within 12 months before the deadline, or be finishing doctoral research with written supervisor approval of thesis

• Individual applications only; no joint or team submissions

• Only one Rubicon application per applicant ever permitted

• Project duration between 12 and 24 months at one host institute outside the Netherlands (in special cases within the Netherlands)

• Host institute must provide an acceptance form signed by an authorised representative

• Research in any discipline supported, including SSH, AES, Science and ZonMw areas

• Eligible costs limited to salary, travel, research costs; no overhead or infrastructure funding
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

• Women are especially encouraged to apply

• No combination of stays at multiple institutes

• Overhead costs (housing, computers, infrastructure) are ineligible

• Submission via NWO’s ISAAC (Science, SSH, AES) or MijnZonMw (ZonMw) system only

• Required forms (proposal, CV, host acceptance, manuscript approval if applicable) must use NWO/ZonMw templates and be uploaded as PDFs

• Applications assessed by a multidisciplinary committee within the relevant discipline(s)

• Deadline: 2 September 2025, 14:00 CEST; after submission the digital counter cannot be changed
