What is the Science comes to town 2027 Call?
Expected Outcomes
• Increased alignment of R&I with society’s needs, expectations and values.
• Greater public awareness of diverse career opportunities in R&I.
• Strengthened capacity, networks and involvement of participating cities in science communication and citizen engagement at local, regional and European levels.
• Enhanced inclusive discussion and debate on the future of science and R&I policy involving all relevant stakeholders.
• Improved attractiveness of research and innovation careers for younger generations through European-wide science competitions.
Scope Requirements
• Host cities: 3–6 in number, majority in Member States, not necessarily contiguous.
• Include local science, research and innovation partners; secure commitment letters from mayors or equivalent authorities detailing roles, resources and support.
• Co-design and host an integrated, branded, 1-year urban science engagement programme aligned with ERA Policy Agenda Action 14.
• Clearly specify which events/activities are financed by EU funds versus those financed by cities, satellite cities, sponsorships or other resources; provide a breakdown of all additional resources.
• Ensure link and brand cohesion with preceding and subsequent “Science comes to town” editions.
• Project duration: 24–30 months; deliver draft programme 3 months before launch.
Special Conditions
• Subcontracting is unrestricted.
• The city designated as EUCYS 2027 host must secure commitment from its National EUCYS Organiser (as beneficiary, associated partner or via letter).
• Proposals must respect page limits and layout per Horizon Europe General Annexes; annexes may only contain commitment letters (no additional budget details).
• Eligibility and admissibility conditions (consortium composition, financial and operational capacity, exclusion criteria) per Horizon Europe Work Programme General Annexes.
• Deliverables and reporting obligations follow the Model Grant Agreement.
