What is the SNS Trials and Pilots (T&Ps) with Verticals Call?

Grant Description
Support innovation actions to qualify, quantify and test advanced 5G and preliminary 6G technologies in vertical sectors through end-to-end trials and pilots. Projects should leverage existing SNS platforms, demonstrate technology enablement effects, and target tangible environmental, societal and economic impacts. Outputs include validated infrastructures, viable business models, standardisation contributions and open-source tools.
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

Projects are expected to deliver:

• Thorough evaluation, measurement and validation of advanced 5G and preliminary 6G technologies

• Refinement of seamless end-to-end 6G test infrastructures fine-tuned for vertical use-case performance/KPI and KVI requirements, across public and non-public networks

• Validated core infrastructure technologies and architectures for public and private deployments in pilot and trial scenarios, targeting societal, business and environmental sustainability

• Viable business models for innovative digital use-cases in multiple vertical sectors

• Mature, high-potential solutions ready for post-project vertical adoption

• Impactful contributions to standardisation bodies for 6G use-cases and KVIs

• Visibility of European 5G advanced and 6G know-how through open, inclusive public events

• Onboarding of vertical stakeholders, SMEs, academia and research communities into experimental activities to validate technological trends

• Collection of vertical requirements and “lessons learned” to prepare for subsequent SNS programme phases

• A repository of open-source tools and modules accessible to all SNS projects over the programme’s lifetime
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

Projects must cover at least one and at most two vertical sectors—selecting from: 1) Industry/Manufacturing (incl. robotics), 2) Media (gaming, broadcasting), 3) Transportation/Logistics, 4) Emergency & Safety Services, 5) Health—and clearly indicate the primary (centre of gravity) vertical. Proposals must:

• Demonstrate clear benefits of advanced 5G/6G technologies and architectures for the targeted vertical(s) in terms of scalability, security, resilience, performance and sustainability

• Achieve tangible environmental, societal and economic results by project end

• Execute end-to-end trials and pilots across the full value chain (devices, connectivity, service delivery)

• Integrate public and/or private IoT/cloud/edge computing environments under a unified management framework supporting a European offer

• Define and commit to target sets of KPIs and KVIs, demonstrate how these advance the state of the art, and benchmark improvements collaboratively with other projects

• Implement software services as open-source code with open interfaces for future SNS phases and wider vertical reuse

• Engage key vertical industries with strong standardisation impact and monetize project results towards adoption in the respective sectors

• Reuse and adapt existing SNS or national platforms (including IPCEI-CIS), or other Cluster 4 solutions, to meet project ambitions
