Supports production of short films by selected Caribbean island filmmakers to develop their unique visual storytelling style and enrich original regional narratives
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

Completion and release of up to six high-quality short films that enrich the diversity of original stories from and about the Caribbean islands; demonstrable cinematographic excellence and distinctive visual storytelling reflecting filmmakers’ unique styles; strengthened professional skills through coaching and workshops; enhanced involvement of local and emerging talent; and festival premieres (with potential subsequent distribution on television and streaming platforms).

Scope Requirements

Applicants must be the producer (not director) of one of the 12 projects selected for Studio Caribe Development 2024; reside and work on Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St. Eustatius, or St. Maarten at time of application; be registered with the local Chamber of Commerce (legal entity not required); have completed and released at least one professional short film (or demonstrate via work plan how coaching will compensate for inexperience); present a nearly finalized script for a fiction, documentary, or experimental short film; ensure film runtime of 5–30 minutes (1–30 minutes for animation); plan fit for theatrical, television, streaming, or festival exhibition; realistic, balanced budgets aligned with project type; and a production schedule to complete within 12 months of approval.

Special Conditions

Project must have received a Studio Caribe Development grant in 2024. Applications submitted only by the qualified producer; non-compliant applications are rejected. Film must not be a web documentary, trailer, music video, or report. Up to 10% of the grant may be co-financed post-approval. Production and post-production must prioritize local talent (any external location use must be justified). Applications may be in Dutch, English, Papiamentu, or Papiamento. Mandatory attendance of producers and directors at all designated workshops and training sessions. All films must premiere jointly at one or more festivals; individual release requires Film Fund approval. Budgets must follow the prescribed template and the Financial and Production Protocol (Chapter 2). Required attachments include producer and director statements, vision documents, work plan, CVs, budgets, financing agreements, and Chamber of Commerce extract.
