Projects funded under this call are expected to deliver:
• Successful organisation and delivery of the Transport Research Arena (TRA) conference in 2028
• Successful organisation of two TRA VISION competitions covering all transport modes and cross-cutting issues
• Publication of the conference proceedings in recognised scientific journals
• Increased visibility, political influence and strategic relevance of the transport sector and EU transport policy
• Enhanced dissemination, communication and valorisation of transport R&I objectives, strategies and results
• Stronger links and exchanges between research and innovation stakeholders, industry and policy makers, to accelerate deployment of innovative transport solutions in Europe and Associated Countries
• Increased attractiveness of transport-related studies and reinforcement of research excellence by recognising and showcasing top achievements
• Increased public and stakeholder interest, and a higher number of high-quality applications for the two TRA VISION competitions
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

Proposals must:
• Demonstrate financial and organisational support from the national authorities interested in hosting TRA 2028, including an economic plan covering all additional funding needs
• Include a professional conference organiser in the consortium
• Involve one or more Member States that will hold the EU Presidency in 2028 to ensure high political and strategic relevance
• Address the technological and industrial developments across all transport modes (road, rail, waterborne, aviation) and cross-modal aspects, offering a future-oriented perspective from politics, industry and research
• Ensure broad and balanced participation (students, young researchers, women, diverse country representation)
• Collaborate closely with the TRA Management and Programme Committees—comprising the TRA 2028 organiser, European Commission services, ERTRAC, ERRAC, WATERBORNE TP, ALICE, ACARE, ECTP, CEDR, ETRA and the TRA 2026 organiser—to maintain continuity and coherence
• Specifically address:

• Support to define the conference’s detailed planning and thematic pillars

• Venue identification and selection processes, and on-site logistics coordination

• Development and operation of conference IT management tools

• Organisation of demonstration sessions and technical visits

• Environmental impact assessment and implementation of reduction measures

• Design and execution of the two TRA VISION competitions (student/young researchers and senior researchers) in line with EU climate-neutral mobility objectives, including plans for awardee engagement in the programme and career linkages

• Comprehensive media and communication strategy

• Grants awarded as lump sum contributions under the Horizon Europe Lump Sum Grant [HORIZON-AG-LS], as defined in the Decision of 7 July 2021 and Annex G
