Expected Outcomes

- Scientific and clinical communities make effective use of state-of-the-art information, data, technologies, tools and best practices to better understand the targeted condition and support development of diagnostics, therapeutics and preventive strategies
• Enhanced exchange of data, knowledge and best practices within and beyond Europe, strengthening collaborations and building sustainable knowledge and care networks
• Wide use and further exploitation of newly established and relevant open access databases, integrated with existing FAIR-compliant infrastructures for storage and sharing of collected data
• Policymakers and funders are informed of research advances and consider ongoing support aligned with the sustainability of studies
• Constructive engagement of patients and caregivers in research, ensuring that research outcomes cater to their needs
• Health professionals have access to and adopt improved clinical guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of the condition
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

- Target exactly one of the specified high-burden, under-researched medical conditions: myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome; autism; gynaecological diseases; low back pain; or another high-burden under-researched condition (explicitly stated in the proposal)
• Exclude rare diseases (including rare cancers) and conditions already addressed under HORIZON-HLTH-2024-DISEASE-03-14-two-stage
• Demonstrate that the condition is insufficiently understood, inaccurately diagnosed or inadequately treated in a significant proportion of patients (supported by key literature)
• Address sex and gender-related aspects, age, ethnicity, socio-economic, lifestyle and behavioural determinants, as well as long-term emotional and societal effects on affected individuals
• Ensure multidisciplinary consortia with broad stakeholder representation (researchers, clinicians, SSH experts, patients/patient organizations, SMEs)
• Exploit and integrate FAIR-compliant open access data and databases, linking to existing infrastructures for storage and sharing
• Develop or refine policies and practices based on robust scientific evidence to improve diagnosis, treatment and patient care guidelines
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

- Proposals must explicitly state the single medical condition under study and focus solely on that condition
• Rare diseases (including rare cancers) and conditions covered by HORIZON-HLTH-2024-DISEASE-03-14-two-stage are out of scope
• Use of FAIR data principles is mandatory for all generated and shared datasets
• Inclusion of a clinical studies annex using the provided template is strongly encouraged
• Consortia must include social sciences and humanities expertise to address societal impact
• Startups and SMEs participation is strongly encouraged
• Balanced portfolio award: grants will be allocated not only by ranking but ensuring coverage across the different targeted medical conditions
• Evaluation thresholds: minimum score of 4 for each criterion (Excellence, Impact, Implementation) and cumulative minimum of 12
• Compliance with general admissibility, eligibility, financial and operational capacity conditions as per Horizon Europe General Annexes
• If using satellite-based earth observation or positioning data, beneficiaries must use Copernicus and/or Galileo/EGNOS services
• Entities assessed as high-risk suppliers of mobile network communication equipment are ineligible if topic is subject to network security restrictions
