What is the Take-off phase 1 – Feasibility studies WO Autumn 2025 Call?

Grant Description
Supports feasibility studies to investigate the commercial application of innovative research results from recognized Dutch universities and research institutes, aiming to stimulate science-based economic activity and entrepreneurship; expected output is a feasibility study assessing market potential and a plan for commercialization
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

• A comprehensive feasibility report demonstrating the technical and commercial viability of the innovation

• Identification of market opportunities, value proposition and competitive landscape

• Assessment of IP position and recommended protection strategy

• Detailed business model and implementation roadmap for a potential spin-off or licensing route

• Basis for a go/no-go decision and for seeking follow-on funding (e.g., Take-off phase 2)
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

• Eligible applicants: researchers at Dutch universities (and comparable positions at university medical centers), KNAW and NWO institutes, the Netherlands Cancer Institute, the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, NCB Naturalis, ARCNL, and Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology

• Project type: feasibility study into commercial application of a defined innovative research result

• Funding: up to €60,000 per project

• Duration: maximum 6 months

• Submission: full proposal via ISAAC system by 9 September 2025, 14:00 CEST (no pre-application required)

• Forms: use NWO’s Autumn 2025 application form, budget form, and follow the instructions document

• Grant subject to NWO’s general terms and conditions

• Responsible research data management: draft a Data Management Plan after award and before project start

• Applications must be in English or Dutch via ISAAC

• Use only the official call documents (call text, application form, instructions, budget template)

• Collaboration with industry or social partners and clear knowledge utilization pathway is encouraged

• Budget must be itemized by activity
