Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

- Establishment of key enabling technologies to strengthen the Dutch battery value chain and reduce dependence on external material supply.
• Accelerated deployment of circular economy approaches in battery recycling and materials recovery.
• Demonstration of sustainable, high-performance sodium-ion battery systems as viable alternatives to current Li-ion technology.
• Novel manufacturing processes for LDES battery systems capable of supporting large-scale renewable integration.
• Comprehensive techno-economic and life-cycle assessments quantifying environmental and economic impacts.
• Enhanced scientific impact and strengthened research-industry-public sector collaborations leading to increased sustainable earning capacity and societal benefits in line with the National Growth Fund objectives.
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

- Eligible applicants: researchers employed by Dutch research organisations (universities, universities of applied sciences, TO2 institutes, other recognised institutes).
• Consortium composition: at least one main applicant and one co-applicant (both from eligible research institutions) plus at least one cooperation partner (another research institution, company or public organisation).
• Project duration: intended 4 years, maximum extension up to 6 years.
• Funding categories: personnel, equipment, investments, knowledge utilisation (two differentiated knowledge utilisation rates apply).
• Budget caps per programme line (one award each): Line 1 max €1,440,000; Line 2 max €8,000,000; Line 3 max €5,000,000; total call budget €14,440,000.
• Language: all proposals must be drafted in English.
• Submission via the ISAAC system using prescribed application, budget and annex forms.
• Inclusion of a detailed impact plan and research data management plan (to be finalised post-award).
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

- Mandatory participation in the consortium formation workshop for main applicants (registration by 15 May 2025, 14:00 CEST).
• Only one application will be funded per programme line; projects exceeding 6 years are ineligible.
• Mandatory annexes at submission: budget form, declaration of support from cooperation partner(s), Statement and Signature form, and, if applicable, guarantee of continuity in project supervision.
• Two knowledge utilisation rates introduced on 7 July 2025; updated budget form versions available from 8 July 2025.
• Admissibility checks, expert pre-advice, interview with assessment committee, and formal decision-making stages apply.
• Responsible research data management plan must be prepared before project commencement.
