What is the Using Generative AI (GenAI4EU ) for Scientific Research via EOSC Call?

Grant Description
The call supports the development and demonstration of Generative AI tools and workflows within the European Open Science Cloud to enhance the entire research data lifecycle. It addresses the need for high-quality, machine-readable datasets, FAIR data practices and trustworthy AI services by funding: the creation of AI-powered data quality evaluation tools, pilots to validate and refine these methods, community training and engagement programmes, and protocols for secure, compliant data sharing ...
Required Results for Successful Funding

Expected Outcomes

Projects funded under this call are expected to deliver:
• A federated EOSC platform enriched with high‐quality, machine‐readable scientific datasets consumable by machine‐driven Generative AI applications.
• Secure, compliant common data platforms enabling pooling, sharing and reuse of sensitive, confidential, proprietary and personal data at scale.
• Demonstrators and pilots showcasing large‐scale Generative AI experimentation across priority domains (public sector, health, climate, environment, manufacturing, agriculture, energy, finance, mobility).
• Reusable Generative AI services, protocols and policies that automate data workflows, ensure traceability of provenance and maintain unbiased, trustworthy responses.
• Community training and engagement frameworks that raise readiness and skills for applying Generative AI in FAIRification, data curation, quality assessment and scientific analysis.
• Real‐life use cases in scientific domains (synthetic imaging, time‐series augmentation, materials and drug discovery, complex system simulation) aligning with the GenAI4EU and Apply AI initiatives.
Funded areas

Scope Requirements

Proposals must:
• Demonstrate and foster the use of Generative AI throughout the full research data lifecycle in EOSC, in line with the GenAI4EU and Apply AI strategies.
• Adopt and promote FAIR principles not only for data but also for AI‐trained models to ensure reproducibility, trustworthiness and unbiased responses.
• Integrate Open Data and Open Research Software practices to guarantee transparency, accessibility and compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
• Enrich the EOSC federation with Generative AI tools for data quality evaluation, including the formulation of protocols and policies for data access, processing and provenance management.
• Support European research infrastructures in improving data FAIRness, conduct pilot studies validating AI‐driven data quality methods, and iteratively refine models to remove inherited biases.
• Develop and deliver community engagement and training programmes to facilitate the uptake of Generative AI in scientific workflows, demonstrating its role in FAIRification and machine‐actionability of data.
• Propose governance protocols and policies for automatic data workflows across EOSC repositories and services.
Additional Conditions for Applicants
