What is the Veni - AES 2025 Call?
Expected Outcomes
• High-quality, academically innovative AES research projects with the potential for significant scientific breakthroughs or societal impact
• Establishment or strengthening of research groups/networks within Dutch institutions
• Generation of robust data management practices and deliverable research outputs (publications, prototypes, methodologies)
• Enhanced career prospects through international visibility (via narrative CV support platforms like PEP-CV) and contributions to the AES field
Scope Requirements
• Host institution: Dutch embedding guarantee required from the start
• Budget: up to € 320,000 per project, proportionally reduced if project duration is shorter
• Duration: maximum three years full-time; can be extended by one year (to four years) if part-time (min. 0.4 FTE; <0.4 FTE not permitted)
• Proposal structure (pre-proposal): Evidence-Based CV (academic profile 400–700 words; key output max. 700 words; short research idea max. 100 words)
• Proposal structure (full proposal): research proposal and fit to CV (max. 2,000 words); scientific/societal impact (max. 750 words); data management section; budget form
• Submission system: ISAAC (must download and use NWO forms; ’Outline’ view for explanatory notes on Apple/Mac OS)
Special Conditions
• Part-time appointments below 0.4 FTE are not allowed
• Career-dependent extensions to the three-year post-PhD eligibility window under specific circumstances (e.g. parental leave, illness)
• Domain-specific assessment: AES applications undergo domain-wide committee review, external peer review for full proposals, rebuttal phase, and interviews
• Mandatory data management plan to be prepared after award and before project start
• Optional full-proposal attachments: co-funding declaration; statement if exceeding maximum funding; updated embedding guarantee
