Expected Outcomes
• Increased public engagement, support and understanding of the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ historical stories.
• Strengthened relationships between heritage institutions and community groups through equitable collaboration.
• Development of inclusive, community-informed exhibitions or programs that reflect diverse perspectives and foster ongoing dialogue about national history.
Scope Requirements
• Project focus: a co-creation trajectory to develop one or more presentations or activities about national historical stories.
• Co-creation criteria: equal partnership and shared decision-making with involved communities over content, process and outcomes.
• Eligible costs: only direct costs of the co-creation process (meeting organisation, community compensation, expert/project leader/confidential counsellor fees, volunteer allowances, fair artist fees if applicable). Presentation production costs are not eligible.
• Budget: up to €24,000 per project; total scheme budget €450,000.
• Timing: applications accepted year-round (subject to available budget), submitted 4 months to 5 weeks before project start date.
• Codes and compliance: applicants must endorse the Fair Practice Code, Culture Governance Code and Diversity & Inclusion Code; if deaccessioning collections, follow LAMO guidelines and provide proof of museum register registration or a board statement.
Special Conditions
• No retroactive funding—applications must be submitted before the project start.
• Projects must remain within the €24,000 voucher ceiling; funds allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until budget exhaustion.
• If an artist participates, a realistic fair fee is mandatory (use approved calculators).
• Institutions must comply with Heritage Act disposal rules and LAMO when acquiring or deaccessioning collections; Caribbean applicants have an alternative procedure.
• Assessment: simplified check for repeat grantees; advisory committee review for first-time or lapsed grantees; positive assessments ranked by submission date.
• Applicants must maintain an account on the Mondriaan Fund portal to apply.
