Grant Description
This grant supports visual artists from the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to attend the Venice Biennale preview days. It addresses the need for increased international visibility and networking opportunities, offering tickets, travel and accommodation to boost artists’ profiles and understanding of the global visual arts field. Funded artists must submit a trip evaluation.

Scope Requirements

• Eligibility: Visual artists from the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands with at least one year of professional practice and active in the professional visual arts field.

• Application deadline: 26 June 2025, 16:00 CET (Dutch time) / 10:00 AST (Caribbean time).

• Submission via the Open Oproep Manifestatie online form (requires a user account).

• Application materials:
– Motivation letter (max. 1 page) addressing:

• Why attend the Biennale preview days?

• Current internationalisation efforts and how this trip furthers them.

• A practical action plan for expanding one’s network (who to meet and how).
– CV (max. 3 pages) highlighting the last 2–4 years of professional activity.
– If no Dutch nationality, a BRP extract (≤1 year old).
– Bank details and, if applicable, a Chamber of Commerce extract (≤3 months old).
– If professionally active <3 years, copies of relevant diplomas.

• Assessment criteria: quality of practice (CV, portfolio/website/Instagram), international potential, relevance and urgency of participation. The internal committee also aims for diversity in age, background, gender and discipline.
Additional Conditions for Applicants

Special Conditions

• No retroactive funding: expenses incurred before grant approval are ineligible.

• Enrollment restriction: applicants may not be enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD or similar programmes—except part-time programmes under 20 hours/week (not Bachelor’s).

• Mandatory presence in Venice on 6, 7 and 8 May 2026 for preview days, Dutch pavilion opening and other Fund-organised events.

• Travel vouchers capped at €2,000 for Caribbean-based artists and €1,100 for Netherlands-based artists (includes travel and accommodation).

• Post-trip obligation: submit a written evaluation of the visit to the Mondriaan Fund.

• Selected artists must attend the autumn 2025 information session.

• Selection will respect diversity objectives and is subject to approval by an internal advisory committee.
